Hi is this only for over 18's or teens as well?

Ive also considered setting up an online registry (I'm an IT Security consultant and have also developed many websites). However, I am concerned about the quantity (and lack of quality) of "registries" popping up all over the place... the Yahoo one, this one, the "offline" ones, etc. If it is developed it needs to be high quality (and high security).

I admininster the SMC Australia forums, and I know a few of the women there have expressed concerns re privacy. A few people requested that a section be created there to register donors etc but I was reticent to given the privacy requirements.

Anyway, if I can help in anyway at all, let me know.

Re the "real father" comment, I understand what you mean. In my opinion, the definition of father is the man whose sperm fertilised your egg - eg biological father. Whereas a Dad is the man who raises a child, has the emotional relationship, etc..
I tell my son he has a father who is a donor, but not a Dad (I am single).

Just what I was going to say Fiona! My son is almost 6 and I expect him to need support from someone who has been there done that in the next year or 2.

Plus, I imagine there will be a multitude of hoops for us to jump thru to get this off the ground, which will probably take at least 2 years.

OK, so how can we go about this? I might contact BB/BS in Sydney (there is none up here) and ask their advice on how to set something up.

Oh my goodness - the power of the press... surely this is not sperm donation at all. Sound like the children were conceived the old fashioned way to me. And the press have jumped on the "sperm donation bandwagon" to the detriment of many. Isnt there something we can do?

I would even see it as a sister pragram to the BB/BS one in so far as you could use their legal infrastructure (guidelines/etc). I would say the issue you have raised would be similar woithin the BB/BS program - ie there would be personal views that BB/BS's should not impart on the children.

Guys, I have been thinking about this a bit latey but not sure where to raise it.

I am a sole parent of 2 young DI conceived boys (5 and 2). I am thinking that as they grow up it'd be great for them to have a "buddy" of sorts. That is, for them to get to know older "big brothers" who were also conceived with donor sperm.
Basically, my suggestion is for a "buddy program"... its more a long term goal I guess, but given the ever increasing demand for sperm donors, and hence the need for children to identify with others in their situation, I think its something that will be needed over the coming years.

Not really a website suggestion but not sure where to put this...

Any chance of a (searchable and indexed) database on donor and sibling info?

Similar to the US Donor Registry?

I'm Robyn, mum to 2 young DI conceived boys. Their biological father is not currently an identity release donor but I hope that one day between now and 2019 (when my oldest turns 18) that he may have a change of heart.
